What is Coaching?
The meaning of 'coaching' has its roots in the early forms of transportation, ie. stagecoach or rail coach. The word literally means 'to transport someone from one place to another. In today's context, coaching helps people move forward or create change in their lives.
The benefits of coaching are widely acknowledged. In a survey on behalf of the International Coach Federation (ICF - www.coachfederation.org) 2165 coaching clients from 64 countries reported improvements in:
Self esteem / self confidence 80%
Communication skills 72%
Interpersonal skills 71%
Work performance 70%
Relationships 73%
Work/life balance 63%
Coaching helps to improve the results an individual is achieving. The most recognised forms of coaching come from professional sports where almost any top athlete or sportsman has a coach to help with various aspects of their performance. Coaching is proven to work and is becoming more common for individuals outside of sports and the workplace.
