GILES CARTWRIGHT
I don't want to be deceived.
I don't want other people to be deceived.
I don't want people to deceive themselves.
I think truth is important.
I spent years as a professional conjuror. What that craft actually teaches — not the tricks but the discipline — is how perception works, how attention can be led, and how readily people see what they expect to see rather than what is actually there. I have spent a long time since applying that understanding to a different territory.
I am trained in counselling and coaching. I have studied contemplative practice seriously. I am not offering you therapy, and I am not offering you coaching. I am offering you a particular quality of attention — and what that attention produces: a piece of writing that names what you could not quite name, and gives you somewhere to move.
Someone brings me a question. I sit with it. I read it, turn it, examine what is said and what isn't, notice where the language goes careful and where it goes vague. Then I write.
That is the work.
Two ways to work with me:
The Written Counsel
You send me a voice note. I take the time your question needs and return a considered written piece. No calls, no sessions, no back-and-forth. A single made thing, delivered in writing. Read more.
The Reading
A longer conversation, in person or by video, followed by a crafted written piece. Available by enquiry. Read more.
